Crabtree

Derrick Crabtree, O.D.

Dr. Derrick Crabtree completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. He then received his Doctor of Optometry from The University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX. Through his clinical rotations, Dr. Crabtree obtained extensive training in ocular disease, specifically geared toward treating and managing complex glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and related eye conditions present amongst aging populations.

Additionally, he gained extensive experience fitting speciality contact lenses for all types of complex corneal pathology at Brooke Army Medical Center. Through his training and day-to-day interactions with patients, Dr. Crabtree has developed a special interest in complex eye disease cases but he also enjoys performing comprehensive eye care for patients of all ages.

Optometry came as a second career for Dr. Crabtree. Prior to becoming an Optometrist, he spent 7 years on active duty with the United States Army rising to the rank of WO1. During this time, he was presented with many awards and decorations as well as completed deployments to Kosovo and Iraq.  In his free time, Dr. Crabtree still loves to remain physically active through engaging in all outdoor activities and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children on his family farm. They love attending concerts, eating ice cream, and cheering each other on in all their sports.
